Chris Weeda (Amsterdam, 1972) started playing the violin at the age of 6 and picked up the acoustic and electric bass in his mid-teens.
Around 1991, (being very interested in Jazz music and recording and P.A. techniques) he started working as sound engineer at the famous Dutch jazzclub the BIM-huis in Amsterdam were he got to meet lots of great musicians and groups, most of them without their own sound engineer.... This is how he was invited to go on tour with some of these great bands such as Wolfgang Muthspiel Trio, Fra Fra Sound and Big Band, Nueva Manteca, Hein van de Geyn’s Baseline, Joe Lovano, Willem Breuker Kollektief, Zijlstra, Philip Catherine and many others.
Over the years Chris was invited to come to certain festivals every year to do live-sound; such as: De Klap op de Vuurpijl (Willem Breuker Kollektief), Amsterdam (NL International Jazz Festival Enschede, (NL), Fugue en Pays Jazz, Capbreton (FR).
Chris started his studio recording career in Max Bolleman’s legendary “Studio 44” in Monster (NL) from 1994 till 1996 where he recorded some 35 albums and learned a lot about Jazz recording techniques.
Shortly after that through a recording session for Benjamin Herman (in 1996) Chris met Mikel Le Roy, who at the time ran a very nice mid-size studio in the center of Amsterdam.
There began a long period of working hard, doing hundreds of albums, commercials, film scores etc.
Together with colleague Bastiaan Kuijt we did a lot of (experimental) DSD recordings and mixes in stereo and 5.1
Studio Le Roy has developed into an amazing, technically state of the art studio (SSL4000, TC m6000, Pyramix, ProTools, Urei LA4, Manley etc.) and is currently the main working space for most recording and mixing work.
Early in 1994 Chris and Hein Van de Geyn met at a concert in the BIM-huis which would result in a long professional relationship, touring and lots of beautiful albums.
Between 1999 and 2007 Chris worked as the live sound engineer of “Zijlstra” and recorded, mixed and co-produced five studio albums and one live album.
Besides working at Studio Le Roy a lot of recordings are
done at E-Sound Studio, Weesp (NL), Chappel Studio, Tilburg (NL), Wisseloord Studios, Hilversum (NL) and the beautiful Fattoria Musica, Osnabrück (D)
Since September 2006 Chris has the great privilege to be doing live sound for Toots Thielemans.
For three years Studio Fattoria Musica has been the homebase for 99% of my recordings thanx to the great sound and super relaxed atmosphere and owner Benno.
The best possible espresso from Roma is served during mixing.
